Cronus Zen Xbox Series X and S setup
Xbox is the simplest console for the Zen. An official or licensed Xbox controller wired to A1, the Zen wired to the console, no module. Ten minutes, and the three things that stop it.

Xbox Series X and S are the easiest consoles for the Zen: no module, no Wi-Fi, no pairing. An official or licensed Xbox controller wired to the Zen's A1 port, the Zen wired to the console, and you are done. Ten minutes including the firmware update.
Why A1 matters on Xbox
The Xbox only accepts accessories that can prove they are licensed. The Zen cannot, so it relays the console's challenge to the controller on A1 and passes the answer back. That controller must be an official or licensed Xbox pad and must stay wired for the whole session. It does not have to be the pad you play with, and when you play on a pad made for another console, Cronus asks for an official Xbox Series pad on A1.

Steps
- Firmware first. Hold the small blue reset button underneath, connect CONSOLE/PC to a PC, release at "Zen Bootloader", run Cronus's web updater in Chrome or Edge.
- Console. Connect the Zen's CONSOLE/PC port to a USB port on the Xbox. Rear ports are steadier than the front one.
- A1. Plug the Xbox pad into A1 and press its Xbox button. The OLED shows the controller within a few seconds.
- Optional play pad. Plug a second pad into A3, or the Xbox wireless adapter into A3 for wireless play. The A1 pad can sit behind the console.
- Script. Load it if you have not: how to put a script on the Zen. Select the slot. Test every button in the dashboard before a match.

The three things that stop it
- A charge-only cable. Test any cable you are unsure of between a phone and a PC.
- An unlicensed pad on A1. Put an official pad there; play on the other one from A3.
- Instant-on. Waking from instant-on sometimes leaves the Zen unseen. Unplug and replug the CONSOLE/PC cable, or use energy-saving mode.

Questions
- Does the Cronus Zen need a module on Xbox?
- No. Xbox needs only an official or licensed Xbox controller wired to the A1 port. Zen LINK is for PS5.
- Can I use a third-party Xbox controller on A1?
- Yes if it is licensed for Xbox. Cronus lists models from PowerA, Scuf, Razer, Turtle Beach, PDP, Nacon, GameSir and Victrix. Some need a setting changed in their own app first. Unlicensed pads are hit and miss; if yours fails, put an official pad on A1 and play on yours from A3.
- Can I play with a PlayStation controller on Xbox through the Zen?
- Yes. An official Xbox Series pad on A1 to authenticate, DualSense on A3 to play. PlayStation-only features such as the touchpad and adaptive triggers do not carry over.
- Does it work on Xbox One?
- Yes, the same way, with an Xbox One or Series pad on A1.
- Does the A1 controller have to stay plugged in?
- Yes, for the whole session. The console re-checks the licence, and pulling the A1 cable drops the controller within seconds.
