What you need before buying a Cronus Zen script
A script is a file for a device you already own. The checklist of hardware, cables and software a Zen script needs on PS5, Xbox and PC, so the download works the first evening.

A script is a file. It runs on a Cronus Zen you already own, loaded through a PC, on a console that is wired a particular way. Most first-evening problems are a missing piece from this list, not the script. Check it before you check out.

The pieces people miss
Data cables. The single most common failure. Many USB cables carry power only; they light the Zen and send nothing. Test a cable by connecting a phone to a PC with it. If the PC sees the phone, the cable carries data. Budget for two or three good ones.
PS5: Zen LINK or the bypass. On its own the Zen needs the free PS5 bypass, redone after every console restart. The Zen LINK module removes that step and is Cronus's supported method; the PS5 Ultimate Edition bundle includes it. PS5 setup compares the two.
The right pad on Xbox. The pad on A1 answers the console's licence check. Official Xbox pads and licensed ones such as Scuf, PowerA and Razer work there. To play on a pad made for another console, keep an official Xbox Series pad on A1; Xbox setup.
Current firmware. A used Zen often arrives on old firmware, and scripts compiled for 2.2.x will not run on it. The update is a browser job of under a minute; firmware update.
A PC, once. To update firmware and load the script. Zen Studio Live runs in Chrome or Edge on Windows or macOS. After the script is on the Zen the PC is not needed.

Which Cronus Zen to buy is the short version: the Zen for Xbox and PC, the Zen for PS5 too if you are happy doing the bypass, the PS5 Ultimate Edition if you would rather not, and never the old CronusMAX for a current console.

- Do I need a Cronus Zen to use a script?
- Yes. A script is a .gpc file that runs on the Zen. Without the device it does nothing.
- Do I need Zen LINK?
- No. It is an optional module for PS5 only. It saves you the free PS5 bypass on every boot and is the method Cronus supports. Xbox, PS4, Switch and PC never use it.
- Do I need a PC?
- Once, to load the script and update firmware. Zen Studio Live runs in Chrome or Edge on Windows or macOS. After that the Zen runs the script on its own.
- Do I need two controllers?
- On Xbox, only if you want to play on a pad that is not made for Xbox, such as a DualSense; then an official Xbox Series pad sits on A1 and you play on A3. Official and licensed Xbox pads work on their own. On PS5 one controller is enough.
- Is the script a subscription?
- No. One payment; updates ship free after every game patch.
